In the electronic world, Filipinos are known for spending an inordinate amount of time on computer games, mobile phones (SMS, MMS, ring tones, what have you), YouTube, and other newfangled digital stuff. I guess it’s due to our penchant for communication, for keeping in touch, but especially for letting our friends and family know what we’re up to.

The perfect answer to the Filipino’s thirst for multimedia solutions might just be this new service that I found on the Web: AVS4YOU. Basically, it’s a set of software that lets you create and manage digital video & audio, as well as do multimedia processing.

AVS4YOU is a project of Online Media Technologies Ltd. Here’s an excerpt from their FAQ page:

AVS4YOU tools let you easily rip, convert and edit audio/video files, burn DVDs, create ringtones, upload video to mobiles, portable players and much more.

AVS software suite for video, for example, is a collection of powerful video manipulation tools. Editing software will accommodate all major video formats (MPEG, Video DVD, AVI), without the need for re-encoding. The AVS VideoRemaker even allows you to edit out unwanted parts from a video (like commercials, etc.). Another ultra-convenient tool is AVS DVD to Go, which lets you transfer DVD movies to your Sony PSP, iPod, portable media players, even to video-capable GSM phones!

Those are just samplings of the power of AVS4YOU — a suite of multimedia processing software. The way it’s packaged is that, different tools come in separate pieces of software. For example, for Audio, there is a program for editing files, and another for converting, and so on. Video, as shown above, is the same way. Other sets include Burning and Mobile (e.g., AVS RingTone Maker).

Some might think that this is cumbersome. And others might also think that, with this arrangement, the whole suite might cost an arm and a leg. Not so.

My take on the AVS software concept is this: instead of having a humongous piece of software that can do everything, Online Media Technologies has segregated the functions and packaged them into separate software programs. This, I believe, makes for lighter programs that won’t task your CPU’s resources. Also, this means that you download only what you need!

As for price, what if you really wanted the entire collection of audio and video manipulation software? The almost unbelievable thing is, all of them come under one license only. That’s right, you pay only one time for one license for all the downloadable programs.

AVS4YOU is in fact a subscription service. They have two pricing schemes: yearly subscription and lifetime subscription. If you choose to purchase a one-year subscription, the price is only US$29! But that’s valid only until the end of May 2007, after which the price reverts back to US$39 — still a good deal! The promotional offer on the lifetime subscription rate is US$59.

The catch is, a license is good for only one computer. But this is normal. The good news is, even if you upgrade video cards or reformat your hard drive, etc., your license would still be good to go!
