Nokia N82: an impressive camphone

The Nokia N82 is one impressive mobile camera phone. While its predecessor, the N81, was a rather klunky music phone, the N82 definitely lives up to expectations.
Case in point: the N82 5-megapixel camera is equipped with Carl Zeiss optics, Xenon flash, autofocus, plus a secondary CIF camera in front for video calls.
The photo of me here was taken with an N82. I didn’t apply any effects to it, except to resize and sharpen it. I know it’s a bit grainy — but that’s because my friend Rodney didn’t use the flash.
Here’s another photo were the Xenon flash was used. The exposure is OK, in my opinion, but the background colors are rather dull. Still, it’s a decent photograph, don’t you think?
The N82 is a powerful mobile phone that runs on the Symbian S60 OS. It can operate on the 2G, 3G and 3.5G (HSDPA) networks. And because it is equipped with Wifi, I can use it to surf the Internet effortlessly at any of the hundred or so hotspots in Davao City.
The downside? I don’t like the keypad — it’s too compact and the keys are hard to hit. Nokia calls this model a "storytelling" phone, and with its camera/video features paired with its Internet facility, it could be so. Thing is, its keypad doesn’t exactly inspire enough text input for you to be able to tell a really good story…
In terms of form-factor, however, I do appreciate how it fits in my hand. It’s a tad lighter than the N81, which makes it a delight to carry around — but then it’s drop-prone exactly because it’s so light…
When you buy an N82, it comes with a free 2GB micro-SD card. If you want more juice, though, this phone can accommodate up to 8GB of extra memory!
What I think should’ve been the feature of its predecessor is part of the N82: a 3.5mm audio output jack. This means you’re not limited to the included Nokia headset; I use my el cheapo headset from CD-R King and it works just fine.
The Nokia N82 is one I’d certainly recommend to anyone who wants to own three gadgets in one: a mobile phone, a good digital camera, and a PDA. For me, this device’s calendar, contacts and notes programs are enough to keep my daily life organized.
This is the phone for me — I’m sure I’ll get used to the keypad sooner or later.
